The World's First 100% Recycled Ceramic Washbasin
Our 100% recycled ceramic washbasin is a first in the industry and reflects our commitment to using less resources, minimising waste and maximising our contribution to the circular economy.
According to a study conducted by LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) and VitrA, the production of these basins minimises our environmental impact on global warming and fossil fuels by 30% per product.
We believe that this pioneering innovation will set a new standard in sustainable design within the industry.
*The entire basin is produced from nearly 100% recycled waste materials that are generated and disposed of during the CSW manufacturing process.
A Recycling Process
The basins are made from purely recycled materials – broken and discarded ceramic and waste sludge taken from the manufacturing process which would otherwise end up in landfill.
The broken ceramic is separated and ground to create milled scrap. Alongside this, other waste material such as pulp from the wastewater treatment facility and ground scraps are used to create fresh sludge. These are combined and poured into moulds to give the basins their shape, and then dried and fired. The final step in the process is to re-glaze the basins.
Reusing these materials in the production process provides both energy and material savings when compared to extracting new material. Approximately 5kg of raw materials are saved per product, and a 38% improvement in electricity consumption.
Shaping the future
By choosing to reclaim materials that would otherwise have been discarded, we are actively reducing our environmental footprint. The basin embodies the principles of a circular economy, where waste becomes a valuable resource. It is a result of VitrA's commitment to using less resources, minimizing waste and maximising our contribution to the circular economy.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is circular economy?
Circular economy is the process of re-using materials instead of using new resources. This results in positive outcomes such as lower energy use, less greenhouse gas emissions, and savings on raw materials. At every level of its production processes, VitrA adopts circular design principles and a sustainable future-oriented approach.
-
What does eco-friendly product mean?
"Eco-friendly products" are recyclable materials that use less energy during production, safeguard the planet's natural resources, and require little energy.
-
What recyclable materials does VitrA use in the production stages?
Scrap products and waste pulps that are broken or cracked and unusable after the firing stage are the main waste material used in the production of our 100% recycled washbasin.
-
Why should I choose the VitrA 100% recycled washbasin?
The VitrA 100% recycled washbasin is the first and only 100% recycled ceramic basin in the world. By choosing this product you are helping to preserve the environment, build a sustainable future, and leave the world a better place for future generations to live.
-
What are the different options for the recycled washbasin?
The recycled washbasin is available in five distinct shapes - round, square, oval, TV and pebble.
-
What should you pay attention to when designing your home for sustainable living?
The main practices to consider are:
Choosing products with high energy efficiency
Using renewable energy sources
Selecting eco-friendly products that preserve the environment
Making choices based on recycled products
Reducing consumption by choosing long-lasting and durable products
Product choice
The basins are available in a matt taupe finish in five different shapes: oval, square, round, TV and pebble. They have a slightly textured finish, increasing the visual and tactile impact of the recycled material.
