Many UK bathrooms are very small in size, with often just enough room for essential sanitaryware and furniture. However, there are a few things that can be done to open up the space and optimise its use. In this blog we’re answering some of the most common questions asked around how to best use space in a small bathroom.
A key tip is to go compact, choosing washbasins, units and toilets with shorter projections. The depth of an average washbasin is 360mm however there are now a wide range of smaller styles that work well in even the smallest of bathrooms. Consider first what type of basin you would prefer – wall-mounted sinks are good space savers as the space below the sink is open for storing items underneath. Our Zentrum Wall Hung Vanity Basin, for example, comes in five different widths with a choice of outward depths of 465mm or 385mm.
However if you want storage options, there are also short projection vanity units available, such as our Zentrum washbasin unit with a short projection of 450mm. We recommend units with double doors as they project less into the room when opened. Remember to match your mirror cabinet with the depth of the sink as it can make it difficult to get to the tap when brushing your teeth if the mirror cabinet protrudes out further!
The type of toilet chosen can also make a difference.
