First RIBA & VitrA regional talk

Leading bathroom brand VitrA is delighted to announce the first RIBA + VitrA Regional Talk as part of its continued relationship with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), taking place at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefield on Wednesday 22nd May.

Celebrating the opening of The Weston, the new Yorkshire Sculpture Park’s visitor centre designed by architects Feilden Fowles, the talk will be an ‘In Conversation’ lecture between Directors Fergus Feilden and Edmund Fowles and Yorkshire Sculpture Park curator Clare Lilley, discussing the creation of the new building.

Constructed from layered pigmented concrete, evoking the strata of sandstone bedrock, the building emerges from the ground and is defined by a concrete saw-tooth roof. The centre will enhance physical, intellectual and sensory access to the landscape, ecology and heritage of the historic estate, as well as to the sculptures presented elsewhere in the Park. Carefully designed to have minimum impact on the site and to fit sympathetically with the historic landscape, The Weston comprises a restaurant, public foyer, shop and gallery space, showcasing a changing programme of temporary exhibitions.

VitrA partnered with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) to launch the RIBA + VitrA Talks in Autumn 2018. This flagship programme is aimed at showcasing the best in contemporary established and emerging voices in architecture, both in the UK and internationally with talks occurring in London, Istanbul and regional cities in the UK.

The 2018 programme of the RIBA + VitrA Talks consisted of four critically-acclaimed talks featuring celebrated international names Kazuyo Sejima, Sir David Adjaye and Kate Macintosh amongst others.

In 2019, the series opened with talks by non-profit design firm MASS Design Group and world-class architects Frida Escobedo and Emre Arolat. They will be followed by renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, talking in London on 16th April and Istanbul on 18th April about the architecture of memory, place and people.

This partnership with RIBA reflects VitrA’s long-established commitment to add cultural value to society through the global exchange of architectural discourse.
