VitrA launches architecture anew online

VitrA announces its third year of partnership with the Royal Institute of British Architects with the launch of a new talks programme, ‘Architecture Anew’. This is the first public talks programme from RIBA with a focus on sustainability within architecture. This season of talks will kick off with three digital lectures from celebrated architects and designers, including Anna Heringer, Anupama Kundoo, Jonathan Tuckey Design, Studio Morison and Xu Tiantian.

‘Architecture Anew’ focuses on a generation of architects mobilising the case for a new approach to sustainable architecture. Challenging our understanding of the term ‘sustainability’, this talks season will explore the environmental, social and economic impact of architecture, addressing it from a more holistic perspective.

The RIBA + VitrA partnership continued with digital talks in the second half of 2020, with talks from practices including Atelier Deshaus, Studio Gang, 3XN & GXN, Neri&Hu and multi-disciplinary artist and designer Es Devlin. Most recently, Róisín Heneghan and Shih-Fu Peng, Co-Founders of Heneghan Peng delivered a digital discussion on the practice’s latest and upcoming schemes and explored the impact of the ongoing pandemic on the architecture industry and the urban landscape.

Levent Giray, Managing Director of VitrA UK, comments:

We are delighted to be partnering with RIBA for a third year in a row on such an important series of discussions. The upcoming contributors are a notable addition to the extraordinary line-up of speakers who have participated in our talks programmes over the past two years to create an exchange of ideas and views within the architecture and design community. As sustainability continues to act as an important driving force for creativity, we are proud to be encouraging these challenging conversations between specialist international architects”

VitrA’s partnership with RIBA aims to create a platform for the global exchange of architectural ideas by bringing together internationally renowned voices. This reflects VitrA’s long-term commitment to adding cultural value to society through the exchange of architectural dialogue.

The 2019 -2020 programme of RIBA + VitrA Talks started with a sold-out lecture from Craig Edward Dykers and Kjetil Trædal Thorsen from Snøhetta Architects, followed by two London talks by Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto de Moura in December and Danish architect Dorte Mandrup in January. In February, Pakistani architect Yasmeen Lari spoke at the V&A Dundee, whilst Ben van Berkel of UNStudio hosted a talk in Istanbul in March. Liu Yichun of Atelier Deshaus started the new digital talks in June.
