RIBA & VitrA talks continue with Atelier Deshaus

The RIBA + VitrA Talks Series by leading bathroom brand VitrA continues with a talk by Liu Yichun, Principal of the international architectural practice Atelier Deshaus. The talk will be streamed live from Shanghai to ticket holders across the world on Monday, 29th June at 1pm GMT+1.

The conversation will look back at the practice’s 20-year legacy designing iconic educational, cultural and domestic buildings, whilst exploring the future of the architecture industry and its vital role in our society. Since its foundation in 2001, Atelier Deshaus has developed a reputation for striking transformations of industrial sites into modern civic and cultural spaces.

One of the practice’s most celebrated buildings of this type is the Long Museum (2015) in Shanghai’s West Bund, part of a major conversion of a former industrial area into a new arts and cultural district. Other key projects include a kindergarten school for Jiading New Town (2010); the Blossom Pavilion (2015), designed in collaboration with the artist Zhan Wang; and the Modern Art Museum (2016), a large-scale cultural building transformed from a former coal bunker.

The RIBA + VitrA Talks create a platform for the global exchange of architectural ideas by bringing together internationally renowned voices. This reflects VitrA’s long-term commitment to adding cultural value to society through the exchange of architectural dialogue.

Levent Giray, Managing Director of VitrA UK, comments: “Given the current climate of economic and social uncertainty, we are thrilled that the RIBA + VitrA Talks programme can continue to provide a stage for pivotal figures in the creative industry, such as Atelier Deshaus. With talks taking place digitally, we are confident that we will create an inspirational forum for international architectural discussion.”

The 2019-2020 programme of RIBA + VitrA Talks started last year with a sold-out lecture from Craig Edward Dykers and Kjetil Trædal Thorsen from Snøhetta Architects, followed by two London talks by Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto de Moura in December and Danish architect Dorte Mandrup in January. In February, Pakistani architect Yasmeen Lari spoke at the V&A Dundee and in March Ben van Berkel of UNStudio hosted a talk in Istanbul.

Tickets can be booked here and cost £4 for RIBA members and £6 for non-RIBA members.
