VitrA and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) announce two new events as part of ‘Architecture Anew’, the first public talks programme from RIBA with a focus on sustainability in architecture. The season of talks started in March 2021 with three digital lectures from celebrated architects and designers, including Anna Heringer, Anupama Kundoo, Jonathan Tuckey Design, Studio Morison and Xu Tiantian. This is the third year that RIBA + VitrA have partnered on a talks programme exploring different architectural approaches and ideas.
The next two talks in the programme, Architects Beyond Architecture and Rewilding: Nature Cannot Wait, will continue along the same approach that examines the role of architecture in designing a more sustainable future. The talks will foster interdisciplinary conversations between global change makers who are dissecting the intricacies of sustainability, embracing social, economic and environmental concerns within architecture and design.
For Architects Beyond Architecture, listeners will hear from filmmaker Mark E Breeze, Kishan San from Forensic Architecture, a research agency based at Goldsmiths, University of London, that investigates human rights violations including violence committed by states, police forces, militaries, and corporations. They will be joined by Lindsay Bremner, Director of Research in the School of Architecture and Cities at the University of Westminster and Chris Hildrey, the architect behind ProxyAddress; an initiative that uses duplicated addresses to connect those facing homelessness with support.
Speaking at the Rewilding: Nature cannot wait talk is Jess Kennedy, Associate Director of Sustainability at Arup and Project Director at Wild West End, Gwyn Stacey from the Centre for Alternative Technology, Richard Reynolds from The Guerilla Gardner, Jan Stannard from Heal Rewilding and Mari-Chiara Piccinelli from PiM.Studio
‘Architecture Anew’ focuses on a generation of architects, designers, artists and activists mobilising the case for a new approach to sustainable design. Challenging our understanding of the term ‘sustainability’, this talks season will explore the environmental, social and economic impact of architecture, addressing it from a more holistic perspective.

Now in its third year, we’re pleased that our partnership with RIBA has been able to challenge actions and hopefully spark change.”
VitrA’s partnership with RIBA aims to create a platform for the global exchange of architectural ideas by bringing together internationally renowned voices. This reflects VitrA’s long-term commitment to add cultural value to society through the exchange of architectural dialogue.
